PLOWS AND SEEDS
(A peace song.)
By Amparo Jaramillo-Restrepo
Chorus
Send us plows and seeds
Your dreams, your heart,
So we can walk together, in peace,
Hand in hand, brother Sam.
Father got killed
In the river one morning
While looking for fish.
Carlos lost his arm
Under a rainbow, one evening
While flying his kite.
Looking for fruit
Under a tree in the countryside
My friend found a mine.
He also found death
Among the daisies, under a tree
on the countryside.
The full moon
was so bright one night in the park
we gathered to sing and to dance.
But the school was gone
Next morning when we came to class
We all sat at the park just to cry.
You can't replace my father
Or bring my friend back,
But you can give me
Love and hope, brother Sam.
So we can walk together, in peace,
Hand in hand, brother Sam.

This song was written in New York, in
1988 inspired by the terrible experiences
of the war in Nicaragua.
